Aren't last-minute specials cheaper?
A lot of people think that they can wait until just before they cruise, and then get the lowest fares. That is simply not the case. Most ships fill up before they cruise and there is no space available. The cruise industry is woefully short of cruise ships. That is why there are 50 brand-new cruise ships being built right now, for deployment in the next few years. Just the six cruise lines we feature on this web site (click here to view) are building 33 new ships. If there is space available at the last minute, it is usually very expensive, and not in desirable locations. When a ship does have availability at the last minute, and they offer reduced fares or a promotion, in nearly every case, everyone who has purchased a cabin beforehand can get the lower fare or the promotional fare. That is what travel agents mean by a "low-price guarantee". It means that if the price of your cruise is ever reduced, your price can be reduced also. So, there are several advantages of booking your cruise early, rather than waiting until the last-minute. First, you get the best choice of cabins. Second, if the price is ever reduced, you can get the benefit of the lower price. Third, you will be guaranteed to go on the cruise, and not be shut out. So, book early. Average cruisers book 6 to 9 months ahead. Some cruises, like Alaska and Europe are often booked 12 months ahead for best prices and availability. Another advantage is that you'll have longer to pay for your cruise!
